Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo festival is associated with the celebration of Mexican American culture. Every year, it falls on May 5. People celebrate this day by eating and drinking Mexican food. It has now become a significant holiday in Mexico.
Many people, however, misunderstand this day. They think that it is Mexican Independence Day, but it’s the celebration of the victory at the Battle of Puebla.
This festival marks the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the French empire. It happened in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican war. So that’s why it is also known as the Battle of Puebla Day.
Customers say that this day brings them close to their homes. Sam De Long said We feel excited when we miss out and go from Arizona or Texas, and then come back to northern New York and enjoy Mexican food.
During the Cinco de Mayo festival, restaurants are busy with catering orders to Fort Drum, to-go orders, and dining in orders. Owners say that we wait for this day all year long.
How do people celebrate this festival?
At Cinco de Mayo, people have fun by dancing, eating, and drinking. The Villages Entertainment presented this festival by bringing a large crowd to the Spanish spring town.
Yamila, an Ocala resident, said,
“Enjoy every day because we don’t know about tomorrow.”
The Orlando-based band Stella Beat played Latin hits and classic pop tunes throughout the event. It happened the first time the six-piece band played on the squares for the Cinco de Mayo festival, even though they have played there many times since August.
“We do it every year with our love and devotion,” Kath said. “It is rewarding for us when people feel happy with our services.”
When Kath travels to California to visit her family, she always stops at a Mexican market to pick some skirts for the dancers.
Kathy’s family visited Florida this year, so she could enjoy a good distraction with them long before the performance began, cooking breakfast for them.
Having all the Villagers be so enthusiastic is an honour for us,” Snyder said. It is an encouragement for you to do better next time.”
