The death of Gilbert Gottfried has confirmed on April 12, 2022. He was an actor and comedian who died at 67 after fighting a long illness. He suffered from recurrent ventricular tachycardia, a form of myotonic dystrophy type 2, a disorder that badly affects the heart.
Gottfried was best known for his loud, annoying voice. He gave voice to the parrot in Disney’s iconic animated film “Aladdin” and to Aflac duck in a commercial for the insurance company.
At 9, he started doing stand-ups around New York and soon gained a reputation among his peers as a comedian.
A short glimpse of Gilbert’s life:
Gilbert Gottfried was born in Brooklyn on Feb 28, 1955. His father, Max, and Max’s brother Seymour had run a hardware store. His mother, Lillian, was a homemaker. Later, the Gottfried family moved around different areas in Brooklyn. At 15, Gilbert attended an open mic night at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village.
He made an impression on some celebrities, and the audience laughed at his actions. Soon, he found himself hooked on performing. He said I was silly to do anything, and that stupidity helped me a lot.
In the late 1990s, Mr. Gottfried picked up someone’s dropped food and put it in his place at a Grammy Award party. The former owner of the food, Dara Kravitz, looked at him in disbelief. Later, they both got married in 2007 and settled in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
“I know I could never find anyone like him,” Gottfried’s wife said in the New York Times interview. Her husband replied, “I think most people are hoping that they will meet no one like me.”
Gottfried further said that it’s not funny that I will be busy in the future. The reason behind this is that I am more in demand. I feel like I am a person who sells lemonade, and people are buying too much lemonade from me.
